In order to improve the standard of Public Administration through Investigation of Complaint against Public functionaries, the Assam Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Act, 1985 (Assam Act XX of 1986) was introduced which received the assent of the Hon’ble President of India on 12th December’1986 and thereafter, the Assam Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Rules were framed in 1988 vide Notification No.PLA.193/83, dated the 20th January’1989. Accordingly, the Lokayukta Organization was set up on 20th January’1989 in Assam. Since its inception, the Lokayukta Organization is working to investigate a complaint of “allegation” and “grievance” against Public functionaries including Ministers and other Elected Authorities.
